Hey, Im

Katrina.

Hi! 👋 Katrina here, but you might know me better as Kid-Friendly PDX. You see all the adventures I go on with my family, but I wanted to tell you a little more about me.

I was born and raised in the Portland area (Beaverton to be exact) and went to college at the University of Oregon (go Ducks!), where I studied journalism.

In my life before kids, I was a music journalist. That pursuit took me to Los Angeles, where I met my husband and worked some pretty rad jobs in the music industry, including editorial director of MySpace (RIP).

After we got married and decided we wanted to start a family, we moved back up to the Portland area.

I do have a place in my heart for LA, but Portland has always been my home, and it feels so good to be back.

While I was pregnant with my daughter, I had the opportunity to write a guidebook about Portland called 111 Places in Portland That You Must Not Miss. Through that project, I discovered so many new places and met so many new people — I couldn’t wait to explore the city with my baby. The pandemic hit a month before my book was published, so if you’re wondering why you’ve never heard of it that’s probably why!

When my daughter was born, I had so much fun taking her to some of the places I went as a kid and exploring new places with her. When my son was born, I thought, "Why not share these adventures with other people? I had no experience with social media — my first Kid-Friendly PDX reel is literally the first reel I’ve ever made. I had no expectations when I began my Instagram account, but my real dream was to start a newsletter. I am a writer, after all.

In July 2025, I decided to quit my part-time job and the last string tying me to music journalism to do this full-time. Part of the reason was that I was ready to launch my newsletter. Now, that time is finally here, and I could not be more excited!

Portland is the absolute best place to raise a family, and The Kid-Friendly PDX Newsletter dives even deeper into the amazing people and businesses that make up our community through interviews, profiles, curated event lists, and themed guides.

Thank you so much for being a part of my journey, and I hope to be a part of yours as we navigate parenting in the City of Roses! 🌹
